Support Systems

Whether you are just beginning to question aspects of your gender or sexuality, or whether you have come out to everyone you know, it’s important to create a support system for yourself.

What Is A Support System?

A support system can include friends, family, health care professionals, online communities, and even physical spaces such as resource centres, libraries, magazines, books, videos, etc. Supports are the people, places, and things that will be there for you when things are not going well, and even when things are going very well. Supports give you strength when you’re low, and keep your spirits up by making you laugh and giving you hope. Your support system may include people you know and people you don’t know (such as crisis line counselors whom you may never meet or see in person).
